The estate’s character is reflected in MEME wines, two wines that owe their name to Emanuele Pellegrini’s nickname for his grandfather, who was also named Emanuele. MEME Chianti Superiore DOCG and MEME Chianti Riserva DOCG thus combine memory and the family tradition with the new generation, who is now at the helm of the company. MEME wines represent 90% of the company’s production and are produced according to traditional methods using only the local Sangiovese and Canaiolo varietals.
MEME Chianti Superiore is a pure Sangiovese with a strong regional identity and an overall pleasing character. In the glass, it indeed reflects what it means to be superior. The grapes come from multiple parcels whose soil has a medium clay-heavy texture, which gives the wine a rich feel of tannins in the mouth. It is produced in stainless steel vats and aged for at least eight months in steel and cement vessels before bottle ageing.
DATA SHEETMEME Chianti Riserva comes from the best grapes present in the best parcels of the company’s historic vineyards, which are around 60 years old. This provides the grapes with a longer maceration time, with the goal of achieving a more concentrated Sangiovese with a long life span. Its more concentrated profile requires longer ageing in cement and large barrels, as well as months of ageing in the bottle. It is only produced during the best vintages.
